While Williamson County is rich in American history, the Battle of
Franklin is perhaps the most significant event in its long history.
This brief, bloody and incredibly fierce Civil War encounter took
place on November 30, 1864. Five other battles were fought in
and around Franklin, the county seat.
Williamson County is served by a major
railroad and six major highways cross the county. Eleven scheduled
airlines serve Nashville International Airport, and terminal
waterway facilities are available in Nashville.
The area enjoys a healthy economy which
is
well-balanced between industry and agriculture. Williamson County
ranks high among Tennessee counties in gross dairy product sales,
beef and dairy cattle and hay and silage acreage.
